Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Napa Valley—CA - Stringer Cellars

Reviews

91 - Connoisseur Guide to California Wine
Cabernets sourced from the Stagecoach Vineyard invariably are wines of great gravity and concentration, and Stringer’s is a dark, very deep, densely extracted version that meets every expectation. It is presently bound up by its youth with unconcealed tannins to spare, yet its highly extracted, very generous fruit is in no way inhibited or hidden, and, although it unquestionably has the structure, the substance and the sheer fruity depth to ensure grand things with age, it is a wine that will take its time in fully coming into its own. No fewer than a half-dozen years of cellaring is warranted here, and those with the patience to wait for ten will have no regrets that they did.

96 - Decanter Magazine
Haute-couture Napa, showing cassis, blueberry, and creamy black fruits of great purity as well as sweet depths. Notes of vanilla and a silky, sweet spice finish.

Vineyard:

1,800 feet above the valley floor in the eastern Vaca Mountains of Napa Valley lies the famed Stagecoach Vineyard.  Stagecoach Vineyard extends from the Atlas Peak AVA all the way north to the Pritchard Hill region.  Our Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet is clone 337 from Block C3A in the Pritchard Hill region of the vineyard.  This region of Napa is characterized by red volcanic rock and large diurnal shifts which are ideal for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaking:

The hand-picked fruit was
destemmed, hand sorted and moved to a combination of a closed top stainless
tank and small new 60 Gallon French oak barrels for fermentation. After a 5-day
cold soak the must was inoculated.  During fermentation the tank was pumped over 2-3 times a day and the barrels spun to maximize extraction.  The
wine stayed on its skins for 21 days and pressed at dryness. The barrel
fermented wine and tank fermented wine was kept separate until a barrel
selection could be made
